How Much Will This Cost?

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to tell what your case may cost you overall. There can be filing fees, discovery fees, mediation fees, or other unknown expenses beyond what you pay the attorney handling your case. You will likely not be able to recuperate any of your expenses as part of a final settlement, either as attorneys fees are barely awarded in family cases.

We try to be as upfront and transparent about the cost as possible. In general, we try to quote retainers for the amount we think it will cost to handle your case. However, cases can get messy and drag on much longer than anticipated. If we exhaust your retainer, we do have other options available for payment.

There are ways to help keep your cost down. For instance, you can apply for subsidy with certain mediators to cover the cost of mediation. You can also ask the Court to waive certain initial filing fees if you fall below a certain income level. If you’re concerned about attorneys fees - you can limit your calls or e-mails to once a month to discuss anything that is not an emergency.
